1. Case Study: Resilience gap analysis at the University of Coventry

With the onset of Covid and significant organisational changes planned, the University wanted to ensure that they had a robust handle on all continuity risks, and to energise their resilience where needed.

 

The Challenge:
With Covid significantly impacting operational delivery and changing ways of working, the University wanted a deep dive into what was working well and where there were resilience gaps.



 

2. Case Study: Corporate Incident Management Plan refresh and training, University of York

How Incident Ready Consulting updated the University Incident Management Plan and then trained up the Incident Management Team and put them through a series of exercises to build confidence and competence.

The Challenge

A recent audit had highlighted that the existing Corporate Incident Management Plan was unwieldy and out of date following Covid. Senior staff had not had any recent training in their roles and there was limited confidence in the effectiveness of arrangements given significant changes in staff.

3. Case Study: Business Continuity Planning, University of Aberdeen

An internal audit report post Covid highlighted that business impact analysis (BIA) and business continuity plans (BCP) needed refreshing, capturing a greater degree of detail and aligning with sector good practice.

4. Case Study: ISO 22301 certification. The University of Surrey

Being able to provide assurance that resilience arrangements are robust is increasingly a requirement in strategic partnerships, procurement tenders and in investments, acquisitions and mergers. Organisations often use resilience standards certification to demonstrate a commitment of duty of care to their customers.  

 

5. Case Study: University of Cambridge - Insurance risk management

Incident Ready Consulting supported the University of Cambridge to right-size its property insurance cover and improve their risk management controls and transparency.

The challenge

Faced with a harsh market for property renewal in 2021, the University of Cambridge found itself unable to obtain property insurance cover for its £7.5 billion estate. The bottom line was that insurance underwriters wanted to have a much more detailed understanding of what was in each building, how effective the risk controls were, how much revenue might be lost and how effective the contingency plans would be in reducing indemnity periods.

6. Case Study: Validating plans through exercises, Plessey Semiconductors

With a new strategic partner, Meta, investing heavily in Plessey Semiconductors from 2020, much greater levels of assurance on the effectiveness of business continuity and incident response arrangements were required. 

 

Incident Ready Consulting has supported Plessey with an annual training and exercise programme for the last four years. As arrangements and confidence matured, this year saw the first full live exercise.

7. Case Study: Exercise Unified Response, St Thomas' Hospital, London

Exercise Unified Response was a national level search and rescue and mass casualty exercise with a scenario of a collapsed building over Waterloo underground station.

 

On day two “casualties”  arrived at St Thomas’ hospital. The Trust's EPRR team gained Executive Board support to run the exercise as a plug into the national exercise during a busy operational day in the Emergency Department.

 

The St Thomas’ major incident exercise was co-designed by Justin Cuckow and Jess Child in liaison with the Inpatient Services team, NHS England London and the London Ambulance Service.

 

This live multi agency clinical simulation took place involving over 200 staff and “patients” played by actors with moulage injuries. It provided significant learning and assurance that the Trust was well prepared. 

 

Just a year later there was a terrorist attack on Westminster bridge outside of the hospital.
