Resilience gap analysis case study describing the methodology and project established to enhance preparedness and readiness

Resilience Gap Analysis at the University of Coventry

The Challenge:
With Covid significantly impacting operational delivery and changing ways of working, the University wanted a deep dive into what was working well and where there were resilience gaps.

Incident Ready Consulting’s role:

  • Undertake a resilience and business continuity gap analysis and make recommendations for the development of the business continuity management system.

The Methodology

  • Agree scope for the project focused on value chain and key areas of risk.

  • Data gathering and desktop review of plans and supporting processes.

  • Engage with the Covid-19 project team to review learning and good practice.

  • Telephone interviews with leads in key areas (including Security, Estates, Accommodation,  IT, Registry, Communications, Procurement, HR).

  • Baseline survey to understand Incident Management Team member knowledge levels.

  • Site visits (security Control room, estates, Library, Data centres).

  • Build dashboards to facilitate communication of findings.

  • Report and recommendations.

The Result

  • A detailed report and recommendations briefed to the Executive Team.

  • A costed, phased and prioritised project plan for delivery.

  • The findings of the gap analysis were adopted in full and led to a two year resilience implementation project chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer to fully refresh all aspects of the University’s emergency preparedness, resilience and response.

  •  At the end of the project, Incident Ready Consulting were then put on a call off contract to provide ongoing support.

Client Feedback
"Justin came highly recommended by University colleagues because of his excellent reputation in the Higher Education sector.  Justin delivered an insightful organisation wide resilience gap analysis and improvement project plan.

All of the recommendations were approved in full by the Vice Chancellor at a time of significant budget pressure.  The project Justin set up and is delivering with us has achieved all outputs on time and is making substantial traction to build resilience and help us manage our continuity risks in a systematic way across our wide and complex organisation.

We’re delighted with the support we have received and have no hesitation in recommending Justin and Incident Ready Consulting Ltd to organisations wanting to address resilience and business continuity in an effective and engaging way."

Ian Marshall, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer, Coventry University
